This has been the longest week of our lives. Saturday night we had to go get drugs for Nicole at 3:00am so we didn't sleep much and Sunday night we thought her water broke which was her mucus plug and didn't get to bed til after 4a.m. Monday night we both tossed and turned and Tuesday night was go TIME.
Alexys Brielle Smith was born at 10:55a.m. weighing 5lb 14oz and 19 3/4 inches long.First off i would like to thank all of my friends that tried to prepare me for what was about to happen. Unfortunately, no matter what they say nothing compares to the real thing and being there with all that's entailed. It was very emotional for one seeing my wife in such stress and PAIN it was almost unbearable to watch..... I'm tearing up as I type this. She got an epidural at like 2 cm and was only at 4cm at 4:30a.m. The nurse checked her at 6a.m. and said she was COMPLETE. It caused a mad scramble among friends thinking we were going to have a birth in the next hour. The doctor didn't arrive til about 7:30. After 3 1/2 hours of pushing Alexys was finally born. I always heard there was a ton of people in there at birth but we only had 1 nurse for 95% of it..... When they phoned delivery we had a party then. About 8 nurses showed up from various departments. 3 or 4 more pushes and she was finally out. I got to cut the umbilical cord. I forgot about the afterbirth.... That was an interesting site in itself.... I am being very selective of calls we answer because i'm trying to conserve energy for Nicole and myself. Once we get aclimated we will welcome everybody who wants to meet our new addition. I have already assisted on my first diaper that was full of black stuff..... We should get released Friday morning so that should be fun. This will definitely be the BEST Father's Day EVER!!! I will NEVER be the same after today. It's hard to describe it but it's almost like when i decided to follow Christ and have never been the same since. It is definitely an emotional roller coaster but it's a GOOD thing. Thanks for all your prayers! The Smiths.
